OJSC Gazprom, being one of the key players on the global energy market realizes its social and environmental responsibility, which can be confirmed by the fact that the Company has taken extra obligations in the form of Environmental Policy, HR Management Policy, Labor Protection and Industrial Safety Policy.
OJSC Gazprom’s environmental performance has two main goals: mitigation of negative environmental footprint from the Company’s industrial activities at all its facilities and tackling environmental problems in the regions of the Russian Federation by gasification, implementation of power and transport policy, and financing of nature protection programs.
Introduction of Gazprom’s Energy-Saving and Power Performance Concept till 2020, Gazprom’s Comprehensive Environmental Program for 2011-2015 into work practice will encourage achievement of strategic targets of the Environmental Policy and positive results, such as increase in the Company’s share capital, minimization of specific negative impact on the environment, rational resource management, involvement of the whole Company’s personnel into activities related to mitigation of environmental risks, improvement of environmental management and performance.
OJSC Gazprom is a socially responsible Company and pays primary attention to arrangement of healthy and comfortable labor conditions, provision of social safety net, privileges and compensations to its workers. These and other HR development trends are regulated by Comprehensive HR Management Program of Gazprom and its subsidiaries till 2011-2015.
Gazprom’s industrial activities tend to move towards regions with complex natural and climatic conditions: Yamal Peninsula, shelf of the Barents and Kara Seas, Far East and other regions with even more complex operation and environmental conditions, which present potential danger to personnel, population and biotic communities. Today there are extra challenges associated with climate change risks.
Cost-effective maintenance of facilities’ safety and reliability simultaneously with stable environmental situation is the primary goal of management systems. The leading role here is given to development and introduction of innovative technologies to ensure safe operation, adaptation to climate changes and minimization of environmental footprint.
Long-term partnership relations of oil and gas companies, national regulatory and certification bodies, research centres, equipment manufacturers and suppliers, services companies, public environmental organizations are extremely important, as they can help quickly and cost-effectively increase industrial and environmental safety, minimize environmental risks, improve energy performance and reduce greenhouse gas emissions for all lines of Gazprom’s activities.
